Car rental in Faro

Faro is the unofficial capital of the Algarve region of Portugal, and the resort makes a convenient base from which to explore the 150 km of south facing coastline.

If your trip calls for car rental, Faro airport has the most options in the area, with several smaller and locally owned companies, as well as a couple of the larger names in car rental. Faro airport serves about 6 million passengers a year, with about half of them coming from the UK and is served by about 40 airlines, including RyanAir, EasyJet and British Airways. The airport is located just a few miles from the city, making it easy to pick up your car and drive to your apartment or hotel in Faro. Car rental rates are often lower if you book your car before you leave home, rather than on arrival at Faro.

Touring the Algarve

As the Algarve’s largest resort, Faro has plenty of hotels and apartments, as well as beaches offering just about any water sport or activity you could want. Many visitors make straight for the beach, although it would be a shame not to explore the rest of the Algarve and the easiest way is with a car rental. Faro as a base allows you to easily explore this beautiful part of Portugal, with its villages of traditional whitewashed houses, the many hiking trails and of course, the 100 or so beaches, over 80 of which have received a blue flag for cleanliness. The Algarve is also a magnet for golfers, with over 35 courses offering not just a challenging game, but stunning scenery too. Regardless of where your travels take you, Portugal boasts some of Europe’s most well maintained roads, and has also been recognized as one of the safest countries in Europe.
